How Thoughtful Design and Collaboration Led to a Modern, Functional, and Beautiful Home

At Sierra Integrated Systems, we have a knack for creating smart home systems in Incline Village, NV that seamlessly fit into any home’s design. Recently, we had the chance to team up with an architect and builder to do just that. Here’s a look at how we did it and the challenges we tackled along the way.

Choosing and Installing Motorized Shades

For this project, we aimed to make the shades practically invisible when they’re not in use. Because of our collaboration with the architect and builder, we managed to integrate recessed pockets in the ceiling or under the window headers to completely hide the shades. This design choice kept the shades out of sight, perfectly complementing the home's clean, minimalist look while still providing the homeowner with intuitive control of their window treatments.

We wanted to make sure the shades were hidden when not in use. The architect’s ability to incorporate recessed pockets into the ceiling and window headers was key. We stayed in constant communication with the builder to ensure the installation went smoothly and matched the overall design perfectly.

Overcoming Challenges Through Team Collaboration

One of the biggest hurdles in this project was working with the recessed headers for the shades. We also had to install a framed pocket for a motorized art lift over the fireplace, all while managing an extensive lighting design provided by Lighting Can Help You. The secret to tackling these challenges was our fantastic team collaboration and open communication. By working closely together with our team and third-party contractors, we were able to overcome each obstacle and ensure a smooth installation process.

Integrating Audio/Video Components with Control4

To ensure a flawless operation of the audio and video components within the Control4 system, we remained loyal to our trusted industry partners: Triad, Snap, and Future Automation, that we know work well with Control4. These products offer high-quality audio video and are easy to integrate into the Control4 platform for easy control.

Customizations and Unique Features

A standout customization in this project was the motorized art lift we installed over the fireplace. The client wanted the TV to be hidden and not dominate the room. We achieved this by attaching a heavy sheet metal panel to a Future Automation art lift, which keeps the TV out of sight when it’s not in use. The installation required precise framing and exact measurements to ensure the TV rested perfectly on the mantle when closed and didn’t block the exhaust vent when open.

Tailoring the Control4 User Interface

We didn’t need to do much customization for the Control4 system’s user interface. Control4’s interface is user-friendly and stays consistent across different setups, so the client picked it up quickly. The main adjustments we made were automating the lift with the TV’s power command and adding some custom lighting scenes.

At Sierra Integrated Systems, we know that the key to a successful project lies in careful planning, great teamwork, and using high-quality products. This case study shows just how committed we are to these principles and how we integrate smart solutions into any home design.
